La Folie Kilomètre

Marseille: La Folie Kilomètre – creations in public spaces

La Folie Kilomètre is a live art collective based in Marseille (France), gathering together performers, artists and designers. Combining these disciplines, we create live performances, artistic expeditions and walks, and workshops.

La Folie Kilomètre invites you to discover new notions of landscape and public space. Its site-specific works seek to affect a transcendence of the ordinary by bringing to the fore the ideas about place created in the collective imagination. The collective’s live performances involve fictional scenarios, sound installations, combined collective actions, drawing, mapping and  scenography.

Their work questions the way we live, dream and transform our environment (cities or landscapes). The audience is always involved in our proposals – they take part as a group, they become actors of there own  experience. They have already brought the work to the roofs, staircases, riverbanks, streets, islands and busses in France.

Project idea and Objective

Hotel Obscura in Marseille: By working on the theme of habitat and the construction of a welcoming city, we want to address urban imaginary formatted neither by tourism nor by conventions, in order to rediscover the relief and pleasure of the individual. Hôtel Obscura is a time of mystery in any hotel in the city, where the traveller becomes a resident and vice versa.

Having studied applied arts and completed a master in history and geography, Lucie Corouge worked in the field of submarine archeology. Moreover, she works regularly on projects involving submersible and maritime creations.

Lieux publics is a Centre national de création based in the Cité des Arts de la rue, which was newly opened in 2013 in Quartier Nord, a social flashpoint in Marseille. The focus of the work of Lieux publics is art in public space. The center assists artists of all disciplines that make the city the place, the object, and the subject of their creative work. Today, Lieux publics is an urban design laboratory that uses various instruments to shape urban space. These include the research initiative “Remue Méninges,” which examines interaction between art and public space and pursues, with respect to specific sites, questions about the meaning of architecture, city planning, social networks, and history. Lieux publics additionally houses ateliers, music practice rooms, sound studios, and workshop spaces that it makes available to local projects. A further instrument is the coproduction of local artistic projects, including not only financial support, but also consulting and networking services. Lieux publics also works closely with schools and youth in the surrounding neighborhood.
